Converting fractions to decimals. A fraction shows part of a whole, and one half means one of two equal parts. To find its decimal, divide the top by the bottom: 1 divided by 2 equals 0.5. So the decimal form is 0.5. This also represents five tenths, since it sits halfway to one. The other decimals correspond to different fractions: 0.25 is one quarter, 0.75 is three quarters, and 1.0 is the whole, which is why they aren’t the decimal for one half.
